What is Dispatches?

Dispatches is your blog, where community meets curiosity—a living series built on what you observe, document, and share. If you’ve just flipped over a log, spent the last year documenting local species, or captured a springtail through a macro lens, we want to hear from you. Whether you’re a photographer, hobbyist, springtail enthusiast, or simply soil-curious, your stories, images, and insights help build a collective record of the vibrant, often-overlooked life beneath our feet.

What You Can Submit

There’s more than one way to document the world beneath our feet. Below are the types of contributions we currently feature—from images and insights to tools that help others explore.

01

Photographs

From crisp macro images to behind-the-glass vivarium setups, your photos bring soil life into focus—and we’re here for it.

02

Field Notes & Observations

Whether it’s a range extension, an unexpected behavior, or a strange encounter in the leaf litter—your firsthand observations add context to the creatures we study and care for. Notes from the field, backyard, or terrarium all help paint a fuller picture of mesofaunal life.

03

Species & Culture Data

Have insights on culturing techniques, rare finds, or species that aren’t well-documented? Share your notes, methods, or results—whether successful or not. Every detail helps refine our collective understanding and brings attention to species that might otherwise go unnoticed.

04

Have Something Else to Share?

Not every discovery fits neatly into a category. If you’ve created something unique, have a submission idea that doesn’t quite belong in Dispatches, or just want to get in touch about a potential contribution or question, we’d love to hear from you.
